This Is Fine

About

Often depicted as a two-frame comic, a large eyed dog is sitting at a table with a cup of coffee. The dog is smiling and the room is on fire.

This is Fine derived from a six panel webcomic series “Gunshow” from illustrator K.C. Green in January of 2013. The dog is trying to assure himself that everything is fine, despite his hot and dangerously spicy situation of the room burning to the ground. The dog reacts calmly even as he creepily melts slowly from the heat.

In April of 2013, the comic’s first two panels were submitted to a thread on 4chan but This is Fine had not yet began its rise to popularity. All it took was a post on Reddit in January of 2014 where it was dropped with the title “Accurate representation of me dealing with university stress”. The rest was meme history as another building block of meme culture was solidified.

Message

Although the original comic extends the story, the first two panels are fantastic as a template of many situations with an absurdist twist. This is Fine is somewhere between an “oh well” and a complete denial of reality. The meme is a great way to deemphasize any stressful situation or alternatively, for depicting someone who doesn’t understand the magnitude of their situation.

Why Meme.com loves “This is Fine

The animated dog with the color palette of This is Fine just demands the eyeballs’ attention. In addition… this meme is very versatile. It is one of the few memes that can be created perfectly with one panel or several.

Its amazing though, this meme just doesn’t reveal the obvious elephant in the room. Is this little dog a master of zen or just clueless with what’s happening around him? We await in anticipation to see if this meme can be harnessed for the bear markets of crypto. Here it doesn’t dismay us… with red candles around us… we are building away… and just thinking… “This is Fine“.
